Rebuilding the Bluffton Bluff
By JIM BARBIERI
Not until viewing the giant project of recent weeks in clearing the south bank
of the Wabash River and addressing the riverbank needs there have many really
thought about how very tall the Bluffton Bluff is in very flat Wells County.
No wonder the early arrivals settled on the name of Bluffton.
And not until big earth-moving machinery dug recently into those bared, steep
riverbanks to firm up for construction was it fully recognized how much of those
banks consisted of debris of the decades, covered over by earth and vegetation.
Getting down to the solid staff is, of course, essential for supporting and
anchoring construction.
Among the major benefits of the large project under way with James S. Jackson
Company of Bluffton the general contractor is that the resultant riverbank will
be fortified against erosion and eroding -- in addition, of course, to being
beautified.
Jackson General Contractor for $2 Million Project
One of Indianas leading contractors, James S. Jackson Company Inc. of
Bluffton was the winning bidder to become the general contractor for the Wells
County Revitalization project including the new Wells County Arts, Commerce
& Visitors Center plus major upgrading of the south bank of the Wabash River
across from Kehoe Park.
The LandPlan Group LLC of Fort Wayne is the riverbanks design firm with Kevin
McCrory leading that project development. Design Collaborative of Fort Wayne,
with Ron Dick the project design leader is the architect for the building facility.
