VERA CRUZ
Vera Cruz is the smallest incorporated town in Wells County. The town is governed
by a three-member elected Town Board and an elected Clerk-Treasurer, all elected
for four-year terms. The town officials were continued in office with no 2003
opposition. Town elections are next scheduled for 2007.

Vera Cruz has a Sanitary Sewer System going to the Bluffton system and Bluffton
treatment plant. Monthly rates are $48.35. Tap-in fees are $750 within the corporation
limit; $1,000 outside town limits.
Vera Cruz was a settled in 1841 and the town was incorporated as Newville until
becoming Vera Cruz in 1870.
Vera Cruz has a Community Development Committee.
Important events include Big Day in A Small Town, which will be in summer at a
time still to be announced, and a Halloween Walk, which will be held shortly before
Halloween in October.
