Viola Staples, 82

Viola Staples, 82, a long time resident of Poneto, passed away at 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bluffton.
She was born May 7, 1930, in Fort Wayne, to Leslie and Gladys (Porter) Andrews. She married Charles “Chuck” Staples in Fort Wayne in September 1963; he preceded her in death in March, 1998.
Viola worked at the State Hospital and Training Center in Fort Wayne for more than 35 years, retiring in 1998 after working as a supervisor. She lived at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bluffton for the last four years.
She was a member of the Bluffton Church of God.
Surviving relatives include eight daughters, Gloria (Larry) Keller of Texas, Debbie (Bill) Lowe of Marion, Elaine (Charlie) Sills of Poneto, Kristi (David) Davis of Georgia, Roxanne (Larry) Doublin of Geneva, Rochelle (Gary) Jamison of Bluffton, Joey (Doug) Pierce of Montpelier and Carla Staples of Poneto; four sons, Leslie “Chopper” (Debbie) Mazelin of Bluffton, Dana (Robin) Staples of Ohio, Gary Hays of Florida and Mark Hays; and 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Staples was also preceded in death by a son, Dennie Mazelin; one grandson, Scottie Doublin; and one great-grandson, Rickie LaFfolette.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Don Marlowe of the Bluffton Church of God officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, in Bluffton.
Preferred memorials are to Family Life Care of Berne.
