Sylvester James Nunley, Sr., 85

The father of an Ossian man, Sylvester James ”Jimmy” Nunley 85, Huntington, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 5:15 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne.
Born April 30, 1927 in Braeholm, W.Va., to James F. and Grace (Dalton) Nunley, he married Hester Ward on Jan. 22, 1946, in Paintsville, Ky.; she preceded him death on Feb. 19, 2010.
Mr. Nunley was a carpenter with Local 232, Fort Wayne. He previously worked as a custodian for seven years for the Melbourne, Fla., school system. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Marie) Nunley, Ossian, and Frank Nunley and his companion, Peggy Jo, Huntington; two daughters, Diane (John) Wolski, Syracuse, and Betty (Russell) Rulason, Whittemore, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; and one brother and seven sisters.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by four sons, one daughter, and two brothers.
Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Kohler officiating. Burial will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the Huntington County Cancer Society in care of the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.
