Robert Goodspeed, 86

Robert E. Goodspeed, 86, of Hartford City, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on June 28, 1926, in Bluffton. He married Mary Evelyn Bird on Sunday, August 10, 1947 at the Independence Church of Christ, rural Hartford City and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She survives.
He attended Petroleum High School in Wells County. Mr. Goodspeed was a Blackford County farmer and hauled milk for area farmers early in his career. He was a member of Farm Bureau and was a former board member of the Blackford County Farm Bureau Co-op. He served as a commissioner of the Walnut Creek Drainage Board. Mr. Goodspeed served as a deacon and treasurer of the Independence Church of Christ.
Robert greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and living during the winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary (Kathy) Goodspeed, and Doug (Dawn) Goodspeed, both of Hartford City; a daughter, Karen Osterling, of Meridian, Idaho; a sister, Mildred Martin; one brother, Max Goodspeed, Zephyrhills, Fla.; a sister in law, Betty Goodspeed, of Syracuse; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Amanda) Goodspeed, West Lafayette; Ryan Goodspeed, Sidney Goodspeed and Saylor Goodspeed, all of Hartford City; and four great-grandchildren, Gabriel Goodspeed and Elijah Goodspeed, both of Dunkirk, and Amelia Goodspeed and Joseph Goodspeed of West Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul W. Goodspeed; his mother, Laura E. (Drukemiller) Goodspeed; two brothers, Vaughn Goodspeed, and Kenneth Goodspeed ; and a brother in law, Theron Bird.
Services will be held at the Independence Church of Christ, located at Blackford County roads 500N and 300W at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Les Bantz officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
Calling hours at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St. in Montpelier are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. There will also be viewing at the Independence Church of Christ, one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
