Maxine L. Spaid, 101

Maxine L. Spaid, 101, of Bluffton, passed away at 3:13 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton.
She was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Markle, to Sylvester and Rose Alshouse Lesh. She was a graduate of the 1931 class of Markle High School and was an honorary member of Alpha Nu Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Markle. She was a 20-year retiree of J.C. Penney’s in Bluffton and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Poplar Grove Home Demonstration Club.
On Jan. 1, 1941, in Dunkirk, Maxine and Woodrow E. Spaid were married. They shared 63 years together before he preceded her in death in 2004. Maxine was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Stark.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Christianson of Bluffton and Suzanne (Charles) Murray of Carmel; five grandchildren, Terry (Kim) Christianson of Bluffton, Vicki (Steve) Cale of Bluffton, Chris (Michaelene) Murray of Indianapolis, Scott (Denise) Murray of Carmel, Jeff (Alice) Murray of Wauconda, Ill.; and 10 great-grandchildren and five step-great- grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Maxine’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Pastor Steve Bard will officiate. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
Memorials may be made to Kate’s Kitchen through the First United Methodist Church.
