Betty Bixler, 90

Betty Bixler, 90, of Geneva, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Woodcrest of Decatur in Decatur.
She was born Friday, Oct. 26, 1923, in Huntington. She married Herman J. Bixler Nov. 30, 1947, in Geneva.
Betty attended the First United Methodist Church in Geneva. She graduated in 1941 from Geneva High School and went on to attend St. John School of Nursing in Anderson, where she became a registered nurse. Betty was a nurse at Jay County Hospital, and later went to work for Dr. Norman Beavers in Berne. From 1963-1978 she was school nurse for the South Adams School System. Traveling was one of Betty’s favorite things to do, along with watching and cheering on her grandsons as they grew up playing several sports. She also loved watching many sporting events on television and reading.                                                                       
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan Bixler (Russ) Flueckiger of Geneva; grandson John (Brittany) Flueckiger and great-grandson Milo of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandson Andrew (Jiovana) Flueckiger and great-granddaughter Elvira, of Saint Rapael, France.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman J. Bixler; parents, Marion O. and Mildred Smith; two brothers, Harold Smith and Marion (Pud) Smith; and  a sister, Louise Smith.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St. Geneva Friday, Sept. 19, from noon to 4 p.m. A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St. Geneva at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Interment will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Preferred memorials are to the Adams County Boys and Girls Club, 117 E. Main St. Berne, IN 46711                          
Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
