Glenn D. ‘Butch’ Aschliman, 80

Glenn D. “Butch” Aschliman, 80, of Bluffton, passed away at 5 p.m., Oct. 23, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Butch was born in Wells County Aug. 25, 1933, to Noah and Naomi (Gillum) Aschliman. He married Shirley (Hare) Sept. 8, 1957, in Bluffton. Shirley preceded him in death Jan. 20, 1997.
Butch attended Lancaster High School and was a life-long resident of Wells County. He was a truck driver at Renner’s Truck Line for 24 years retiring from there in 1985. He was employed at Old First National Bank from 1985 to 1995 and with the Bluffton Parks Department in the years after 1995.
Butch was a U.S. Army Veteran having served our country during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 and the First Baptist Church.
Butch is survived by three daughters, Tammy (James) Wright of Coldwater, Mich., Terri (Chris) Ulmer of Goshen, and Lisa (Timothy) McCormick of Bluffton; a companion, Karen Smarsh of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Dorothy Moser of Bluffton and Sara Jane Meyer of Bluffton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Butch was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers, Evelyn Ely, Dolores King, Mahilda Dubach, Kenneth Aschliman, Harold Aschliman, and Robert Aschliman.
Calling hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home and one hour prior to service Monday at the church. A service celebrating Butch’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 111 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Preferred memorials are to the First Baptist Church, Visiting Nurse and Hospice, and the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation.
