Catherine M. Binkley, 94
Catherine M. Binkley, 94, of Markle, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at the Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Pleasant Valley, Ill., to Joseph Willson and Nadie Guenzler Willson. She married Carl V. Binkley of Stockton, Ill., on July 30, 1938. Her husband preceded her in death in 2009.
Together Catherine and Carl, both ordained ministers of the Churches of God, General Conference, pastored churches for more than 44 years, serving churches in Illinois, Ohio and Indiana. Their last pastorate was at the Markle Church of the Brethren from 1977 to 1982.
Catherine graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1968 with a degree in elementary education and taught in Freeport, Ill., and Idaville, Ind.
She is survived by four sons, David (Sherrie) Binkley of Perrysburg, Ohio, Jonathan (Barbara) Binkley of Toledo, Ohio, and Stephen (Char) Binkley and Timothy (Lou Ann) Binkley, both of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Rose Mary (Joe) Lampton of Zanesville, Ruth Ann (Larry) Whatley of Ossian, and Rebekah (John) Montgomery of Kewanee, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Binkley of Bluffton; and 22 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Victor. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, a great grandson, a brother, and three sisters.
A celebration service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zanesville Church of God, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lanark City Cemetery in Lanark, Ill.
At Catherine’s request, reflecting her passion of caring “for the least of these” as stated in Matthew 25, donors are asked to give to the Churches of God Project Help mission in Haiti or to a charity of the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
The Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian is in charge of arrangements.
