Once the Norwell Knights scored their first goal, it was all over for the visiting New Haven Bulldogs Thursday night at the Courtyard.
Overcoming a slow start, the Knights rolled to a 7-0 victory in Northeast Hoosier Conference boys soccer powered by a four-goal performance by junior forward Jared DeArmond.
"We've been waiting for him to do that," said Norwell coach Jeremy Steele, "and fortunately he came through tonight."
After Andrew Gerz broke the goose egg with a goal at 19:34 of the first half, the Knights (5-1-2, 2-1) pulled away on the strength of DeArmond's foot.
"We look for him a lot," noted Steele, "and we found him. He put himself in scoring position better tonight."
The goal by Gerz came on a corner kick by Josh Ackerman, as he headed the ball over a crowd past Bulldog goalkeeper Caleb Saylor.
DeArmond kicked off his run at 14:27 of the first half with an unassisted goal.
His second goal came on an 18-yard boot. He took a nice pass from Blair Williams and beat Bulldog defender Blake Lowe at 34:12 in the second half.
Ackerman set up DeArmond's third goal with another corner kick at 25:31 of the second half.
He pulled the trigger again at the 16:44 mark on a pass from Aaron Klansek, who transferred to Norwell from Virginia.
Brent May added to the onslaught with a goal at 12:00. Kory Faus raced down the right side and fired off a shot that May blasted home as he streaked in from the left side.
Williams notched the final goal with 4:30 to go.
In addition to all the scoring, the Knights got a big shutout by junior goalkeeper Darik Boutsaboualoy, who had nine saves.
"We played very well in the back and very unselfishly on offense," said Steele.
New Haven dipped to 2-4-1 and 0-2.
The jayvee match ended in a 1-1 tie. Craig Wolf scored for Norwell. Gavin Thiele had six saves. The Knights are 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in NHC play.
