Claycomb chosen for BRMC honor

Tonya Claycomb, R.N., is the choice of patients and family members for the 2010 Patient Choice Award at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

The award recognizes quality care, comfort and compassion offered by nurses at BRMC and honors one nurse in particular. Claycomb won this year’s honor as part of National Nurses Week May 6-12, being chosen from what organizers said was an “incredible number of nominations.”

The hospital asks patients and family members to spotlight exceptional nurses because they are the ones directly impacted by outstanding care.

“Sometimes it’s just too hard to spot one nurse when there are so many nurses in our hospital doing such an incredible job caring for our patients,” said Brenda Tomson, R.N., the chief nursing officer for Bluffton Regional. “That’s why we asked patients to help us make the choice. They see the little things that matter so much on a very personal level.”

Claycomb works in the Bluffton Regional Community Cancer Center.  She received multiple nominations for the award, and a common theme was apparent.  She was described as compassionate, knowledgeable, caring, and a good listener.  Several people stated that she has helped to ease fears and made their treatment visits as pleasant as possible, given the circumstances of their medical condition.
