Lengerich Meats in Zanesville reopened its retail operation this past week after being closed for two weeks for remodeling.

While the other phases of the business — wholesale meats, custom slaughtering, and processing wild game — went on as usual, the retail business was shut down for expansion.

“Our retail area was in need of new equipment,” said Walter Stephan, who owns the business with Bill Burkhart and Richard Keiffer. “We tore some of the building off, had some new construction and squared the building off, and added 400 square feet.”

A new cooler and a new storage room was added and the meat cases are also new, Stephan said.

The business, which has been known as Lengerich for 15 years, employs 12 people. No one was laid off while the retail area was renovated, Stephan said.
