A difficult economy has made its mark in Wells County. Pamela Beckford can attest to that.
Beckford, executive director of the United Way of Wells County, said Monday that Thursday’s reporting session won’t really be a celebration — barring some last-minute miracle, that is.
With two presentations left this week, she said, the Wells County 2010 campaign is at about 80 percent of its $315,000 goal. That means a shortfall of approximately $63,000.
Beckford did not want to speculate as to what the missed target would mean for what UW means in the community. “It is what it is,” she said.
“With fewer dollars given, we have fewer dollars to help people in Wells County,” she said. “It really means, too, that we’re going to have to work on our budget.”
Thursday’s concluding session will be held at the Rittenhouse restaurant at noon.
