Chamber plans food safety class

advertisement:

The Wells County Chamber of Commerce will host an eight-hour food safety program for “Servsafe” certification on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The program is the first offered by the Chamber in five years. Each food service or food prep establishment is required to have a certified food handler for each shift of operation — a requirement which covers people in many service sectors, such as school cafeterias, day care centers, delicatessens, grocery stores, restaurants, fast foods, caterers, concession operators, and retirement homes.

The class is limited to the first 35 registrants. The session will start at 8 a.m. and conclude around 5:30 p.m.

Persons who need to recertify can register to take the exam only; the test will begin at 4 p.m.  Although not required, it is recommended that persons who do need to recertify take the eight-hour class before taking the exam because of changes in the program in the past five years. The pass rate is about 50 percent for those who choose to just take the exam.

A Spanish-speaking trainer will be available if there is a need for the service.  There would need to be at least five registrants to offer the class in Spanish.

For more information, call the Wells County Chamber of Commerce at 824-0510.
