A bankruptcy filing in North Carolina has created problems for some hog farmers in Wells County.
Coharie Hog Farm Inc. filed for bankruptcy late last week. Coharie is one of the nation’s largest hog farms, and has contracted with several farmers in Wells County. The operation will bring its current crop of hogs up to market weight and then will cease operations.
