The Bluffton Board of Public Works and Safety has given the thumbs up for a new business, Simply Chic, to place a sandwich board and flower pots on the Market street sidewalk during its hours of operation.
Simply Chic will be operating out of 224 W. Market St., and had requested permission for the board and other decorations to be placed on the sidewalk outside its office during business hours. The sign and decorations will be taken indoors when the shop is closed.
Board members Ted Ellis, Jim Pillabaum and Melanie Durr voted to allow the request.
Fire Department Chief Bob Plummer approached the board to request permission to purchase six pagers for the fire department at a total cost of $2,336.70.
The spending had been budgeted for, as the department usually rotates older pagers out of service each year, a few at a time.
Two street cuts were approved by the board.
Craigville Telephone Co. was given approval for excavation on Elm Grove Road and Wildwood Lane as part of the company’s efforts to lay fibre-optic cable, and Brickley Construction was given approval for work at 215 Greenbriar Dr..
The board also approved the closure of Sutton Circle, between Myra Lane North and Myra Lane South, for its second annual block party Saturday afternoon.
The only driveways blocked by the road closure will be those of the residents hosting the party.
