The Upper Wabash River Basin Commission (UWRBC) wants to clean up the river, and is starting upstream from Bluffton.

The commission has received a grant to deal with 161,080 acres in southeastern Wells County, southern Adams County, and northeastern Jay County that drains into the Wabash River.

The primary source of funding is $198,500 from a Section 319 grant, dealing with water quality, from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  The grant does come with some strings attached, however — $132,500 in matching cash and in-kind services must also be provided.
