Register for SW volleyball camp

A volleyball camp for Southern Wells’ girls in grades 5-12 will be held July 13-17 in the Raiderdome.

Cost is $20 per camper, $15 for each additional camper in the same family. Grades 5-8 will meet from 4-5:30 p.m. and grades 9-12 from 5:30-7.

Sign-up forms may be picked up during the week in the Southern Wells Central Office between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and must be returned with payment by Friday, June 26.

H.O.S.S. Winged Sprints at Anderson

ANDERSON — The H.O.S.S. Winged Sprints Cars, ImmediaDent Figure 8’s, UMRA Midgets and Front Wheel Drive Ovals will be racing tonight at Anderson Speedway.

The winged sprint cars return for the first time since Dave Steele set a world record (10.344 seconds) for the quickest lap on a quarter-mile oval in May.

In the most recent winged sprint car event at Anderson, 71-year-old Hank Lower scored the victory on May 20. The most recent H.O.S.S. victory at Anderson went to Geoff Kaiser. 

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., with the racing at 8. Admission is $12 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.

Padres to hold tryout

FORT WAYNE — The San Diego Padres will be hosting an open tryout for undrafted high school juniors through college seniors (ages 15-21) at Parkview Field, home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, on Tuesday, July 21. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and tryouts start at about 10. Candidates should use the south entrance at the corner of Ewing and Brackenridge streets.

Sluggers win baseball tournament

The Summit City Sluggers’ 14-and-under baseball team defeated the Indiana Bandits 9-6 to recently win the Bandits Blast Tournament in Greenfield.

Ryan Keaffaber was the winning pitcher.

In other tournament games, the Sluggers (21-2) beat the Cincinnati Firebirds 9-0 and 12-4, with Chayse Bell and Josh VanMeter, respectively, the winning pitchers. The Sluggers’ lone loss was to the Bandits 10-0, with Andy Roser the losing pitcher.

Offensively, the Sluggers were led by Evan Brown with eight RBI, Roser with six RBI, Garrett Snyder with five RBI, Shea Beauchamp, Keaffaber and Bell with four RBI, Tailur Szarenski with three RBI, Ross Koble and Justin Bair with two RBI.

Pizza Hut pounds AdamsWells

Pizza Hut scored nine runs in the first inning and went on to pound AdamsWells Internet 17-5 in a Bluffton Junior League baseball game Friday night.

Pizza Hut out hit AdamsWells 19-11, led by Dylan Longenberger with three doubles and four runs scored. Drew Hunter added a double and two singles and scored three times. Bubba Applegate tripled and doubled. Matthew Vitatoe, the winning pitcher, tripled and singled twice. Kohl Buskirk tripled and singled. Reggie Garrett added three singles and

Zach Wilson two.

AdamsWells was led by Dane Hoffman and Cade Meadows each with a home run, double and single. Brandon Norman doubled and singled. Desmond Carter was the losing pitcher.

Pretzel’s defeats Les Gerber Ins.

Breanna Brickley and Katie Runyon each had two hits, including a solo home run, to help lead Pretzel’s to a 5-3 victory over Les Gerber Insurance in a Wells County Girls’ Softball Senior League game on Thursday night at Roush Park. Karlie Longenberger was the winning pitcher.

T-Ball scores reported

The following Bluffton T-Ball League scores have been reported: Wells Fargo 20, Almco Steel 14; Steve’s Landscaping 15, Saf-T-Lite 7.
