Senior Justin Bender has been selected as Norwell High School’s ICE (Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education) Student of the Week for the week of May 4, 2009.

Bender’s place of employment in conjunction with the ICE Program is the Bluffton Wal-Mart where he stocks merchandise and does general cleaning. His supervisor is Joey Vilnavua.

Bender is the son of Rick and Ellen Bender of Uniondale. Following graduation, he plans to attend Purdue University to study aeronautical engineering.

“Justin is a top academic student at Norwell with very high expectations for his career,” said Norwell ICE Coordinator Ron Harnish.  “I am very glad that Justin is also an employee in the ICE Program. Some high academic students are never employed in high school as they spend a great deal of time with their nose in the books. Justin proves that students can do both as he is one of the best Wal-Mart employees currently on the payroll. I wish Justin well as he attains some challenging goals.”

The ICE program allows students to be released early each school day to work at jobs that could develop into future careers.  Students learn skills, attain credits, and earn wages.  Each student is also involved in a related-learning class, which is taught by Harnish.
