At precisely 11 a.m. on Saturday hundreds of children from Wells  and Huntington counties began their search for eggs at the Markle Community Egg Hunt.

Brock Fippen, 3, of Huntington, was ready go when the horn sounded.

“Eggs! he cried, as he dove for the brightly colored treasures.

Just a few feet away Makiah Tracy, 3, of Markle, was a little confused at first, confused no doubt by the dozens of choices which surrouned her. But she caught on quickly and was stuffing her basket full in no time.

A few hours later and across the county hundreds more children gathered for the annual Bluffton Community Egg Hunt.

The skies were bright and sunny and the sound of children’s laughter was carried far and wide on the gently breeze which blew.

Brittany Sherman, 10,  and Brooklyn Levernier, 13, both of Bluffton, filled their bags with eggs in no time and quickly settled down to examine the spoils.

“It’s fun,” Sherman said. “We get free candy!”

The Easter Bunny himself wandered the crowd before and after both egg hunts, handing out treats to anyone within reach and posing for pictures.

After both hunts families spread out across the parks, settling down for picnics or just playing. Children flocked to the slides and swing sets; some tookupposition on the manual carousel, spinning and spinning, laughing and laughing.

Larry Harris has brought his children, Donita, 5 and Danika, 6 1/2, to the Bluffton egg hunt.

“This is pretty good weather. It wasn’t so nice last year,” he said. “But this has been a great day and a nice time.”
