Norwell netmen defeat Generals
In their last matches of the regular season, the Norwell Knights boys’ tennis team defeated the Wayne Generals 4-1 at Norwell.
The Knights finished 13-4 on the season, heading into sectional action Thursday. Norwell won two of three singles matches and swept the doubles.
Jason Isch blanked Taylor Ringswald 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Thye Petty downed Nika Rongos 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Wayne’s Dan Kozen beat Logan Reeve 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in No. 3 singles.
In doubles, Tim Baker and Ross Mathews topped Matt Shultz and Jay McClintock 6-1, 6-3. Kyle Reinhard and Jasson Werling beat Wes Reuille and Wes Springer 6-3, 6-1.
Norwell won the junior varsity duel 8-3. Singles winners for Norwell were Tanner Bowen, Mitchell Wilson, Taylor Hildenbrand, Brandon Taylor, L.J. Reeve, Kyle Isch, Sean Cole and Dan Heckman.

Canterbury nets win over Tigers
The Canterbury Cavaliers blanked the Bluffton Tigers 5-0 in boys’ tennis action Tuesday at Fort Wayne.

SINGLES: Stein d. Cameron Gerber 6-0, 6-0; Yahanda d. Cody Cochran 7-5, 6-4; Powell d. Jackson Bates 6-2, 6-0.
DOUBLES: Schouweiler/Greene d. Matt Gerber/Jon Dauterman 6-1, 6-2; Hurley/Robertson d. Gary Green/Drew Neuenschwander 6-3, 6-2.
Bellmont spikes Lady Knights
Alex Fuelling hammered 21 kills Tuesday night to power the Class 3A No. 4 Bellmont Squaws’ volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 victory over the homestanding Norwell Lady Knights in Northeast Hoosier Conference action.
Bellmont improved to 19-5 overall and 4-0 in the NHC. Norwell fell to 0-4 in conference action.
Norwell was led by Lindsey Dahn with four kills, while Haley Chaney had three. Lindsey Stronczek, Andrea Vogel and Lauren Klansek each had two kills. Mallory Bushee had seven assists, while Chaney and Stronczek had two apiece. Elizabeth Ault had 15 digs. Cassie Rice had seven digs and one ace serve. Klansek also had one block.
Taylor McDonald added eight kills for the Squaws, while Madison Schultz added seven and Katie Baker five. Steph Shoup had 33 assists. Fuelling also had eight aces and Shoup three. Chelsea Colclasure had 12 digs.
Bellmont won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-12. Jess Sweeney had five kills. Allison Gutierrez and Michelle Bittner each had four. Gabbie Weaver had 19 assists. Alyssa Bauman had three aces and Gutierrez two. Jessica Rupright and Alyssa Smith led Norwell with three kills apiece. Amber Haiflich had six assists. Keila Martin, Haiflich and Smith each had three digs.

Heritage tops Lady Tigers’ spikers
Heritage defeated Bluffton 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 in Allen County Athletic Conference girls’ volleyball Tuesday night at Bluffton.
Bluffton drops to 6-17 overall and 1-5 in ACAC matches.
In Monday’s loss to the Bellmont Squaws, Carlie Crosbie had four kills and five digs for the Lady Tigers. Jennifer Curry had six assists, two kills and one ace serve. Kara Fiechter added three kills, one ace, five digs and one block. Megan Moser and Shelby Lesh each had four digs and Felicia Prible had one block.

Tigers, Raiders split MS meet
In a matchup of Wells County middle school cross country teams Tuesday evening, the Bluffton Tigers and Southern Wells Raiders split with the Bluffton girls and Southern Wells boys coming up with victories.
The Lady Tigers nipped Southern Wells 27-28, while the Raiders ran away from the Tigers 21-31.
Southern Wells’ Sam Rhodes was the girls’ individual race winner, finishing the 3,000 meters in 12:39. Bluffton’s Jenae Steffen was second in 13:26. Ivy Maddox was third for Southern Wells in 13:30.
Bluffton’s Nick Rhodes and Southern Wells’ Taylor Thompson dueled it out at the end of the boys’ 3,000-meter run, but Rhodes won by a last-second spurt. Rhodes was clocked in 11:30 and Thompson in 11:31. Southern Wells’ Jackson Johnson was third in 12:11.

Lady Crusaders split volleyball match
The Norwell 7th-grade girls’ volleyball team defeated Indian Springs 25-3, 25-20 on Tuesday at Norwell, while the 8th-grade Lady Crusaders lost 10-25, 25-22, 15-7.
Cheryl Maloney served 14 aces to lead the 7th-grade Lady Crusaders. Laken Chaney had 3 aces, Brittany Barger 2, Olivia Geiger one and Brittany Staley one.  Maloney and Geiger each had two kills. Kelsey Beer and Ashlyn Mills each had one kill.
Cheyenne Harris served three aces for the 8th-grade Lady Crusaders. Jessica Louison, Carlie Harnish and Cassandra Heckber each had two. Louison also had four kills. Jalyn Kreme, Harnish and Heckber each had one kill. Marissa Myrice had a block.

Late field goal lifts JV Raiders
Sophomore Conner Stoffel booted a 27-yard field goal with 3.4 seconds left in the game to give the Southern Wells Raiders’ junior varsity football team a 3-0 victory over South Adams on Monday night in Berne.
Stoffel’s kick was set up when the Raiders (5-1) drove from their own 32 with three minutes remaining. The drive included runs from Drew Penrod, Kyle Jones, Kevin Feemster, Nick Pursiful and two pass plays from Penrod to Luke Roush totaling 38 yards.
Defensively, Tyler Cassiday recovered a fumble and several players had multiple tackles, including Jones, Stoffel, Aaron Douglass, Zack Doepker and Andrew Runkle. Roush added a fourth-quarter sack.

New date for Future Lady Tigers
The Bluffton girls basketball program will be tipping off its Future Lady Tigers program Oct. 11 and run it every Saturday through Dec. 13. Bluffton-Harrison girls in grades 3-6 may register for $25, which includes a jersey. Registration forms may be picked up and returned at the high school or by emailing head coach Vicki VanMatre at vvanmatre@bhmsd.k12.in.us. Deadline is Oct. 3. Lady Squires League to begin
Any Northern Wells Community Schools girl in grades 3-6 may register for the Norwell Lady Squires Basketball League by Friday, Oct. 3. Registration forms have been distributed to all schools. For further information, please call girls’ varsity basketball coach Eric Thornton at 543-2213, ext. 7233.

Gilliom, Williams lead senior golfers
Bob Gilliom and Tom Williams had the lowest individual scores for the Tuesday Senior Golf League at Green Valley golf course in Bluffton. Gilliom had the low gross of 42 and Williams had the low net of 34. Members of the winning team were Gerry Moss, Bob Myers, Dick Moser and Gilliom. Gilliom also was the closest-to-the-pin winner and Bob Brickley made the longest putt.
