Norwell netmen top South Side
The Norwell Knights won two of three singles matches and swept both doubles matches to defeat the visiting Fort Wayne South Side Archers 4-1 on Tuesday.
Reid Imel and Kyle Fillman were singles winners. In the No. 2 match, Imel beat Erik Fenstermacher 6-0, 6-0 and Fillman downed Mitch Fisher 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 matchup.
South Side’s Nick Batuello beat Jason Isch 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles.
In No. 1 doubles, Tim Baker and Ross Mathews beat Matt Miller and Steven Stoops 6-0, 7-6 (9-7). In No. 2 doubles, Kyle Reinhard and Thye Petty defeated Alex Graham and Tyler Staton 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
Norwell jayvee singles winners were Brandon Taylor, Kyle Isch and Mitchell Wilson.

Lady Knights subdue Bulldogs
The Norwell Lady Knights golf team tamed New Haven 188-209 Tuesday at Timber Ridge golf course in Bluffton.
Norwell senior Kaylee Imel was the medalist with a 39 on the front nine. Kristen Springer shot a 42 and Ashley Johnston added a 49. Cassie Herndon chipped in with a 58.
Matraca Fritcha led New Haven with a 46.
Hannah Porrata led the Norwell junior varsity squad to a 259-263 victory with a 59. Olivia Shapley added a 60, followed by Haley Toliver with 63 and Kali Herndon 77.

Southwood defeats Raider runners
Five members of the Southwood Knights’ boys cross country team finished in the top six Tuesday night to lead the Knights to an 18-38 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders at Wabash. White’s was the host school but did not have a complete team.
In the girls’ meet, Southern Wells, Southwood and White’s also did not have complete teams.
Southwood’s Chandler Sonafrank won the boys’ 5,000-meter run in 18:09. His teammate, Nicholas Perlich, was second in 18:20. Southern Wells freshman Clay Hamilton was third in 19:23. Raider senior Zach Bergman was seventh in 20:56. Freshmen Joe Biddle and Kyle Penrod were ninth and 10th for Southern Wells, respectively, in 22:36 and 22:46. Raider freshmen David Haigh and Zach Green, finished respectively in 25:47 and 28:35.
Southwood’s Leah Myers won the girls’ 5,000 meters in 20:25. Emily Pinkerton and Josie Rhodes were second and third, respectively, for the Lady Raiders in 22:29 and 24:40.

Blackford downs Lady Tiger spikers
The Bluffton Lady Tigers fell to the Blackford Lady Bruins 3-1 in girls volleyball at Hartford City Tuesday night.
Bluffton took the first game by two points, but Blackford rallied to win the next three games 24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15.
Shelby Lesh was the top Bluffton hitter with eight kills and she also had five digs. Natasha Patterson had four aces and Jennifer Curry had 10 assists.

Norwell jayvees edge Leo 7-6
The Norwell Knights junior varsity football team edged the Leo Lions 7-6 by an extra point Monday night at the Courtyard.
Sophomore Chris Clontz scored Norwell’s touchdown in the second quarter on a 43-yard run and Patrick Shafer kicked the game-winning extra point.
Norwell defensive standouts were Sandon Vieth with an interception and fumble recovery and Spencer Moon with another fumble recovery. Ked Moore and Ethan Caldwell were the leading tacklers.

So. Wells Jr. High girls win opener
Ivy Maddox led the Southern Wells Junior High School girls cross  country team to victory in its opening race Tuesday night at Wabash.
Maddox won the race in 14:12. The Lady Raiders beat Southwood 22-50. White’s did not have a complete team.
White’s edged out Southwood and Southern Wells in the boys meet, scoring 40 points. Southwood tallied 41 and Southern Wells 44.
Taylor Thompson was second for the Southern Wells boys in 12:00.
Other finishers for the Southern Wells boys were: 4. Jackson Johnson; 9. Kedrick Barr; 14. Lance Oswalt; 15. Peter Helm; 16. Josh Markley; 20. Kyle Pinkerton.
Other finishers for the Southern Wells girls were: 3. Kaylie McCammon; 5. Carissa Carter; 6. Jordan Sills; 7. Timber Tucker; 8. Meghan Yencer; 9. Chloe Maddox; 10. Ashton Prible; 11. Lela Knowles; 12. Brooke Penrod.

Gilliom, Morgan lead senior golfers
Bob Gilliom and Harold Morgan were the low individual golfers Tuesday morning in the Men’s Senior Golf League at Green Valley golf course in Bluffton. Gilliom had the low gross score of 40 and Morgan the low net score of 31. Members of the winning team were Bob Meyers, Jack Decker, Joe Gilbert, Gilliom and Morgan. Larry Beeks was the closest to the pin winner. Dennis Gerbers made the longest putt. Starting time for Sept. 2 is 9 a.m. and the league tournament is set for Sept. 9.

Running club slates run
Ouabache River Runners are invited to meet at the White Bridge for a group run or walk on Thursday at 7 p.m. The White Bridge is located east of Hardee’s on River Road (Wabash St.), approximately two miles from the intersection of State Road 1 and Wabash St. (River Road).
