There will be two contests for school board positions on the November General Election ballot, while two other candidates have been assured of election as the filing deadline has passed.
Northern Wells Community Schools board member Michelle Brown-Stohler, who last month filed her candidacy for a fourth term, ended up unopposed as the filing deadline passed. She will retain her seat as the Lancaster Township representative on the board. Brown-Stohler also was unopposed when she sought re-election to her second and third terms.
Also to be elected unopposed will be Kent Park, who will succeed Steve Huffman as the District 3 representative on the Bluffton-Harrison M.S.D. board of trustees, and Daryl Elliott, incumbent B-H board member from District 1.
Huffman had earlier announced his intention to not seek re-election and Park was the only person to submit his candidacy for the post.
Elliott, who currently is the board president, also did not have anyone file for his seat.
The lone contest in the Bluffton-Harrison school district will be for the at-large seat where incumbent Kent Shady, seeking a third term, is being challenged by two other candidates, John Vanderkolk and Cheryl Zeis.
The only contest in the Northern Wells district will be for the Jefferson Township seat currently held by Gene Donaghy, who is opposed by Mary Ann Ripperger, a former treasurer for the school corporation. Donaghy is seeking a fourth term on the board.
