Lady Knights top Lady Raiders
In a match between Wells County girls golf teams, the Norwell Lady Knights defeated the depleted Southern Wells Lady Raiders 139-197 on Thursday morning at Timber Ridge golf course.
Norwell was led by senior medalist Kaylee Imel’s 39 on the par-36 front nine. Ashley Johnston added a 49 for the Lady Knights. Kristen Springer was two strokes back with a 51, followed by Kali Herndon with 52 and Cassie Herndon with 53. In addition, Hannah Porrata shot a 54 and Olivia Shapley finished with a 65.
A trio of Kristy Penrod, Kelsey Bonewit and Katie Hecht represented the Lady Raiders, as other members of the team attended the Indiana State Fair. Penrod turned in the lowest score of 62, while Bonewit followed with a 63 and Hecht shot a 70.
Norwell MS notes preseason slates
The schedule of tryouts and practices for Norwell Middle School fall sports are as follows:
Boys cross country – Aug. 14, 2:50-4 p.m.
Football – Equipment handout – Aug. 11, 8th grade 3-4 p.m., 7th grade 4-5 p.m. and first practice Aug. 18, 3-5 p.m.
Girls volleyball – Aug. 12, 13, 14, 2:50-4:30 p.m. and Aug. 15, 2:50-3:30 p.m.
All students must have a physical form on file in the middle school office prior to tryouts.
Norwell MS girls cross country to begin
Norwell Middle School girls cross country will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 11 from 9-10:15 a.m. Runners should report to the pool/gym entrance. Physicals must be completed and may be turned in at the first practice in order to participate. So. Wells jr. high runners called
Southern Wells boys and girls junior high cross country practice will start Aug. 11 from 6-7 p.m. in front of the high school gym. All runners must have a complete physical form on file in the high school office before they may participate.
Elks golf tournament taking entries
The Bluffton Elks Lodge No. 796 scholarship golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 14 at Timber Ridge golf course in Bluffton. The Florida Scramble will begin at 8:30 a.m. Individuals or teams may sign up at the lodge. Entry fee may vary according to Timber Ridge membership.
Exploring Wells County running club
Anyone interested in helping form a running club in Wells County should attend the final exploratory meeting Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3:30 p.m. at FPC, located in front of Richards Restaurant in Bluffton.
