Exploring Wells County running club
Anyone interested in helping to form a running club in Wells County is asked to attend one of two exploratory meetings to be held in August. The meetings will be held at FPC located right in front of Richards Restaurant. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. and the second will be Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3:30 p.m. The goal of the meetings is to determine if there is enough interest to form and maintain a running club in Wells County. At both meetings, Dave DeVoe will be sharing his running experiences at the Boston Marathon. Register for middle school football
Norwell Middle School 7th/8th grade students may register for football at the school registration on Monday, Aug. 4 from 12-7 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 7-11 a.m. Students may also sign up when equipment is issued on Monday, Aug. 11 from 3-5 p.m. Students must have a completed physical form on record in the office to be able to practice.
When equipment is issued, speed times will be taken and boys should wear shorts and running shoes. Each player is expected to purchase a $30 practice pack, consisting of practice jersey, pants and mouth guard. If unable to make equipment day, please call coach Mark Michuda at 622-4042. First practice is Aug. 18 from 3-5 p.m.

So. Wells jr. high runners called
Southern Wells boys and girls junior high cross country practice will start on Aug. 11 from 6-7 p.m. in front of the high school gym. All runners must have a complete physical form on file in the high school office before they can run.

Norwell football golf outing slated
The ninth Norwell football golf outing will be Aug. 9 at Timber Ridge golf course in Bluffton. Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $60 or $40 for Timber Ridge members. Drivers post wins at Baer Field
FORT WAYNE — Bud Adams, James Kruger and Thomas Latham Jr. won feature races on Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway.
Adams captured the checkered flag in the 25-lap modified feature. After a two-car battle between Adams and Jeremy Wallen, Travis Stepp finished third, followed by Todd Bennett, Mike Bufink, Scott Coe, Jerry Brown, Russ Miller, Joe Wormcastle and Paul Mason.
In the 20-lap street stock race, Kruger broke Jared Neal’s four-race winning streak. Larry Vandall was third, followed by Bob Weisenauer, Destiny Sanders, Scott Wible, Paul Murray, John Robinson, Al Fox and Jackie Vonderau.
Latham beat out the field in the 40-lap mini stock special feature. Tim Howard was runner-up, Mike Mayes, Kameron Lindlag, Mark Mason, Chris Thompson and Chad Schlatter.
Racing returns with the 11th International Gold Cup 100 on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Time trials begin at 5:30. Super Pro, CRA late model sportsman, USA modifieds, street stocks and mini stocks also will be on the card. Rain date will be Saturday, following the same time schedule.
