Parker gets back on winning track
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — After a rocky start, South Bend Silver Hawks rookie righthander Jarrod Parker righted the ship and notched his eighth win on Sunday.
Parker (8-5) gave up three runs and six hits in five innings of work as the Silver Hawks defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels 8-4.
Cedar Rapids started off quick by taking a 3-0 after two innings, but the Silver Hawks scored one run in the fourth inning and took control with five runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. The Kernels narrowed South Bend’s lead to 6-4, but that was as close as they could get.

Kaylee Imel wins Masters event
Kaylee Imel, who will be a junior at Norwell, was the Indiana Golf Foundation Masters girls champion Monday at Harrison Lake Country Club. Imel shot a three-over par 75 (39-36). In the Masters boys tournament, Norwell sophomore McCormick Clouser finished ninth with a five-over 77 (39-38).

Hawks split pair of games
The Wells County Hawks split two games Monday in the Dreams Park baseball tournament at Cooperstown, N.Y., blanking the Marlboro Mustangs 13-0 on a no-hitter by David Vogel and losing 19-2 to the Spartansburg Bombers.
Austin Brigner drove in three runs to power the Hawks (1-2) over the Mustangs. Brigner homered and singled. Piercen Harnish scored three runs, while McCallister Clouser and Logan Detmer each singled twice.

12-year-old All-star team set

The following players have been named to the Bluffton Junior League 12-year-old all-star baseball team: Austin Brigner, Mike Pearson and Josh Streveler of State Farm; Clay Watson, Chandler Harris and Jay Brickley Jr. of First Bank of Berne; Thomas Elliott, Dan Geimer and Ritchie Conley of Pizza Hut; Kyler Fugate, Darren Gillum of JBG’s; Collin Mechling of National City; Cody Harris, Jake Garrett and Colton Steele of Standard Plastics. Team manager is Wayne Rohde of National City and coaches are Travis Rohde of National City, Dan Geimer of Pizza Hut and Dan Williamson of Standard Plastics.

Bluffton tennis practice to begin
Bluffton Tigers boys tennis practice will start on Aug. 4.  Practices will be held from 9-11 a.m. until school begins. Then after classes start, practices will be run from 2:45-4:30 p.m. If there are any questions, contact Robert Vanderkolk at 273-3220 or 824-5454.

B-HMS runners to begin conditioning
Bluffton-Harrison Middle School cross country conditioning will begin Monday, July 28, at the White Bridge (450E-River Road). Conditioning will take place at that location Monday-Friday from 8-9:30 a.m. through Aug. 12. All students entering grades 6-8 are encouraged to participate and must have a 2008-09 physical on file.
