Four winners crowned at Baer Field
FORT WAYNE — Dodging rain storms, Al Cook Jr., Jerry Brown, Jared Neal and Dick Soule were able to capture auto racing victories Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway.
Cook captured the CRA late model sportsman 50-lap race, ending Tony Dager’s win streak. Rick Rinehart was second, followed by Tony Dager, Charlie Hanna, Billy Hutson, Jessie Opliger, Rick Sullivan, Adam Hudson, Bob Dumke and Mark Soots.
Brown won his first race of the year, taking the 25-lap modified feature. Rodney Cropper was the runner up, followed by Ron Stine, Todd Bennett, Jeremy Wallen, Joe Wormcastle, Ralph Baxter, Paul Mason, Mike Bufink and Cliff Setser.
Neal posted his third victory in a row in the 20-lap street stock race. Brian Gruss was second, followed by Bob Weisenauer, Scott Wible, Larry Vandall, Tim Link, Al Fox, Destiny Sanders, Steven Russell and Jan Long.
Soule won the 20-lap mini stock feature for his third straight win. Cameron Lindlag was second, followed by Jake Hinton, Tim Howard, Mark Mason, Zac Sipe, Chris Thompson, Bobby Smith, Brad McBride and Dale Moses.
Racing returns to Baer Field next Saturday with the Bill Lipkey Memorial. HOSS Outlaw Winged Sprints will be joined by modifieds, street stocks and mini stocks. Time trials will start  at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Hawks pounded at Cooperstown
The Proehlific Power unleashed its offensive power Sunday against the Wells County Hawks with a 14-2 victory in the first round of the Dreams Park baseball tournament at Cooperstown, N.Y.
The Power hammered three home runs against the Hawks, including a grand slam and a two-run blast. Wells County was led by Logan Detmer, who also homered. The Hawks were slated to play another game Sunday, but it was postponed due to rain.

B-HMS runners to begin conditioning
Bluffton-Harrison Middle School cross country conditioning will begin Monday, July 28, at the White Bridge (450E-River Road). Conditioning will take place at that location Monday-Friday from 8-9:30 a.m. through Aug. 12. All students entering grades 6-8 are encouraged to participate and must have a 2008-09 physical on file.
