High seas at Wells Community Pool!

In spite of three quick ship sinkings and a couple of vessels which refused to go in the right direction, the Parks Department’s great boat race sped, limed, twirked and roared to a spectacular, though somewhat convoluted finish Saturday evening, July 19 at the Wells Community Pool.

Actually they didn’t roar, but the crowd, who had come to cheer their favorites, did.

Before the vent, proud skippers stood by their prized creations which bore titles such as Indiana Traditions, Master Exploder, Guitar Hero, Olympic Spirit, SS Eagle, Bo Bo Bo Ur Boat, Unique Gift and Thing 1.

Though some of the boats saw the bottom of the pool before they saw the finish line, they were recovered and towed there by their owners. Luckily it was a good day for a swim.

Cardboard boat race results are as follows:

People’s Choice Award - “Pirates of Northwood” by Doug & Deakota Ingle.

1st Place Theme: Youth Division: “Indiana Tradition” by Alex Miller & Allie Gallmeyer.

1st Place Theme: Adult Division “Ro Ro Ro UR Boat” by Donna Anderson & Ro Romero.

1st Place Theme: Mixed Division “SS Eagle” by Tim & Matthew Stotlar.

Youth Titanic: “Guitar Hero” by Boys & Girls Club, Cody White & Samantha White.

Adult Titanic - “The Unique Gif” by Natalie Grote & Mike Sorg.

No Titanic in Mixed Division.

Race Results:

Youth Division - 13 yrs. & under.

1st Place - “Catch A Wave” by Ben Miller & Zach Zeis. Time: 51.32 seconds

2nd Place - “Indiana Tradition” by Alex Miller & Allie Gallmeyer. Time: 1:23.56.

Mixed Division - Child & Adult Riders

1st Place: “Thing 1” by Chris & Colton Anderson. Time: 1:15.84.

2nd Place: “SS Eagle” by Tim & Matthew Stotlar. Time: 1:25.69.

Adult Division - 14 yrs. & older.

1st Place: “Ro Ro Ro UR Boat” by Donna Anderson & Ro Romero. Time: 1:23.25.

No 2nd Place: all other boats sank!
