Brittany Blazier and Emily Elder took top honors at the annual 4-H Fair Talent Show Tuesday night.
A large crowd gathered at the 4-H fair stage to cheer all the participants and especially Blazier and Elder as they sang and danced to “I Could Have Danced All Night.”
Blazier and Elder received top honors by being awarded the Mack Shultz award. This annual award is named after Lt. Mack Shultz of the Marine Corp who lost his life when his plane went down when he was serving the nation in 1974.
Shultz was a 10-year 4-H member and was also a very gifted vocal performer. His mother, Shirley Shultz, proudly presented Blazier and Elder with the award.
Master of Ceremonies Natalie Swineford introduced each of the 14 acts before they performed.
The contestants were placed into three different classes according to their grade levels. Class A was grades one and two, Class B was grades three through six, and Class C was grades seven through 12. This year, there were no participants in Class A, and both Class B and Class C had seven acts.
Each class was also separated into two categories: vocal and other.
In the Class B vocal competition, Alivia Topp won first place singing “Fabulous,” Amanda Price was second with “Breakaway,” and Abbie Nusbaumer took third place singing “What I’ve Been Looking For.” Jeff Fiechter won first singing “Splish Splash,” and Jessie McClure was second in the other category dancing to “Shackles.”
In the Class C vocal contest, Lauren Fiechter received first place singing “Good Morning Baltimore,” Mary McClure was second with “Love Me” and the duet of Kendra Mounsey and Mary McClure singing “Leave the Pieces” was third.
In the other category Brittany Blazier and Emily Elder won first place and Colton Kellam and Bekah Coolman took second with “You’re the One That I Want.”
Photos of all of the participants will appear in the 4-H Scrapbook to be published at a later date.
