Dave Schultz, a veteran reporter and editor, joins the news staff as city editor of the News-Banner today.
Schultz will cover city government news as well as school, business and general news beats. He has most recently been a reporter and associate editor of the Huntington Herald-Press, working there for nearly 23 years in two installments.
A native of Joliet, Ill., he has a B.A. degree in ministries from Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Ill. After working at the Huntington newspaper from 1977 to 1988, rising to the position of city editor, he accepted a position as minister at the North Christian Church in Advance, Ind., where he served until 1993.
Schultz then served as the minister for the Moscow Christian Church near Milroy.
During these ministries, he also worked part-time as a reporter at the Lebanon Reporter, the Shelbyville News and the Rushville Republican.
In September, 1996, he returned to Huntington to work full time at the Herald-Press as a reporter and columnist, primarily covering government news. He was promoted to associate editor in 2001.
Schultz has been honored as “Best General Columnist” by the Hoosier State Press Association in 2001, along with several other HSPA and Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors awards.
He and his wife Susan, who is employed at Quilts ‘n’Gifts in Bluffton, plan to relocate to Wells County as soon as their house in Huntington can be sold. They are the parents of three children: Linda Kay, 30, is the manager of the Warren McDonald’s Restaurant; Timothy, 25, who lives in Huntington with his wife, Samantha, and is employed at the Stride Rite warehouse; and Bobby, 23, a student at Huntington University.
