Norwell duo to play in all-star games
Recent Norwell graduates Rhett Goodmiller and Ryne Otis have been selected to play in Tuesday’s Hoosier Diamond Magazine Indiana High School All-Star baseball doubleheader at Indianapolis North Central. The first game is slated to begin at 11:15 a.m.
Last year, Norwell’s Scott Woodward and Jarrod Parker were  named to the all-star team and Woodward competed in the all-star games at Huntington.
Goodmiller and Otis helped lead the Knights to a 19-12 record in 2008.

Bluffton Tigers win Super Shootout
The Bluffton Tigers boys basketball team won its own 2A Super Shootout tournament Saturday, defeating the Tipton Blue Devils 54-46 in the championship game at the Tiger Den. The Tigers finished the day with a 5-1 record. In pool play, the Tigers downed Frankton 51-46 and Madison-Grant 46-36 but lost to Westview 54-46. In the seeded tournament bracket, the Tigers topped Wapahani and Oak Hill to reach the final game.

Four winners at Baer Field races
FORT WAYNE — Jimmy McCune, Scotty Tomasic, Jared Neal and Tim Howard won feature races Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway.
McCune led all 30 laps to capture the HOSS sprint car race, Jerry Caryer was second followed by Geoff Kaiser, Greg Wheeler and Jim Swain.
Tomasic won the Baer Field modified 25-lap race. Tomasic was followed by Todd Bennett, Ralph Baxter, Joe Wormcastle, and Jeremy Wallen.
Neal posted his second 20-lap street stock race. Neal topped Paul Murray, Brian Gruss, Jan Long and Shane Brumfield.
Howard ruled the mini stock 20-lapper, leading all of the laps. Jake Hinton was second followed by Dick Soule, Cameron Lindlag and Brad McBride.
Racing returns to Baer Field Speedway June 21 with a 50-lap CRA late model sportsman race, joined by modifieds, street stocks and mini stocks. Time trials start at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Two local golfers place 8th
A pair of Wells County youths posted 8th-place finishes in an Indiana Golf Foundation Mountain Dew Tour event at Bridgewater West golf course in Auburn over the weekend. In the 15-16 year boys age group, Taylor Imel finished the par-72, 18-hole event with a 79. Nick Imel, competing in the boys 13-14 age group, shot an 84.

Southern Wells has the following coaching openings: varsity volleyball coach, varsity girls golf coach, junior varsity assistant volleyball coach, junior varsity cheerleading coach, junior high volleyball coaches (two positions available) and junior high football coach. Bluffton needs coaches
The Bluffton Athletic Department is seeking qualified candidates and taking applications for coaching positions for football, volleyball and wrestling. Interested applicants should contact Athletics Director Steve Thompson at 824-3724 as soon as possible.

Summer track meets scheduled
New Haven High School will be hosting six track and field meets on Wednesday nights, June 18, 25 and July 2, 9 and16. Meets begin at 6 p.m. Cost is 50 cents per event.
