Tennis league to begin
Boys and girls in grades 6-12 interested in participating in a summer tennis league should attend an informational meeting June 5 at 7 p.m. in the Norwell High School cafeteria. Play runs from June 11 through Aug. 2. Participants may compete in singles and doubles at different skill levels. Boys singles will be played on Wednesday nights and doubles on Thursday nights. Girls singles will be played on Thursday nights and doubles will be played on Wednesday nights. The season will conclude with a tournament for those interested. Register for Bluffton basketball camp
Registrations are being accepted for the Bluffton Basketball Camp of Champions June 6-10 for boys in grades 5-8 (2008-09) at Bluffton High School. Cost is $25 (special alternatives available). Forms are available at Bluffton High School or call Wayne Barker at 824-3724 for more information.

Norwell boys basketball camp slated
The Norwell Knights boys basketball summer camp for students in kindergarten through grade 8 (2007-08) is set for June 16-19. Cost is $30 for each individual or $50 for a family. Zanesville 4, Imel Brothers 2

Zanesville Merchants scored three runs in the first inning and went on to beat Imel Bros. 4-2 in Wells County Junior League U12 baseball on Wednesday in Zanesville. Paxton Lehman, Piercen Harnish, Cal Clouser and Justin Branstrator each scored a run. Reggie Hayes was the winning pitcher with Clouser picking up the save. Colyn Torson had two hits for Imel Bros. and Logan Dettmer struck out six on the mound.

State Farm 7, First Bank of Berne 6
Ray Gobernatz singled in two runs to cap a five-run, sixth-inning rally to give State Farm a 7-6 victory over First Bank of Berne in a Bluffton Junior League baseball game on Wednesday at Jefferson Park. Hunter Greenway added a home run and two singles, while Bryce Kipfer and Acoya Harriman each singled twice. Joshua Streveler was the winning pitcher. Jacob Shaffer legged out a triple and two doubles for First Bank of Berne. Clay Watson was the losing pitcher.

National Oil 17, Mediacom 2
Jay-Ar Kobryn smacked a home run and Desmond Carter struck out eight batters in leading National Oil to a 17-2 victory over Mediacom in a recent Bluffton Farm League baseball game. National Oil collected nine hits, while Mediacom was held to one. Kyle Stroud added four singles for National Oil. Carter was the winning pitcher and Garrett Walborn absorbed the loss.

Hiday Motors 15, MarkleBank 5
Nate Flatt hit a home run and triple and Bryce Bonewit doubled to drive Hiday Motors to a 15-5 Bluffton Farm League baseball win over MarkleBank at Roush Park. Kyle Doan and Evan Huffman each scored three runs for Hiday Motors. Adam Betz was the winning pitcher, while Spencer Tonner suffered the loss. Orion Lewis made the most of two walks by scoring each time. MarkleBank was held hitless.

Nodine’s 10, Wabash Electric/National City 0
Nodine’s Dental Care recently won two Wells County Girls Softball games, defeating MarkleBank 19-1 and Wabash Electric/National City 10-0.
Peyton Fugate led Nodine’s with four hits against MarkleBank, while Devin Bower had three hits and Kendall Schreiber and Maggie Garrett had two apiece. Garrett was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts, while Morgan Sawyer absorbed the loss.
Garrett had three hits and a home run against Wabash Electric/National City. Bower had three hits, Schreiber  and Michaela Prater each had two hits. Bower also was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts.

Bluffton Regional/Moser & Son 9

Rock Creek Materials defeated Bluffton Regional/Moser & Son 19-9 on Wednesday in a Wells County Girls Softball game.

T-Ball scores reported
The following Bluffton T-Ball League scores have been reported: E&B Landscape beat Adams-Wells 23-19; Dairy Queen defeated Masonic Lodge 21-10; Apache Propane downed Goodwin Memorial Chapel 14-12; Peyton’s Northern edged Pizza Hut 11-10.
