The Southern Wells Raiders bats continued to stay hot Thursday as they ripped the Oak Hill Golden Eagles for 16 hits in a 20-8 victory at Converse.
Jake Ripperger, Devin Leas and Thad Harter homered for the Raiders, who upped their record to 10-12.
The Raiders broke open a close game in the fifth inning when they sent 15 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs.
Josh Lavanchy led off with a single and Leas hit his home run. Harter followed that with a three-run homer.
“It was a big win for our team,” noted Raiders coach Craig McKean.
“We don’t play again until Monday at 11 a.m. at Cowan for the sectional opener against the Blackhawks. It’s been a lot of fun to see how we’ve improved on offense in the recent weeks.”
Ripperger started the scoring with a two-run, opposite-field shot in the first.
Chaz Carroll had his best game as a Raider, hitting RBI doubles in both the second and third innings.
After Oak Hill tied the score in the third, Alex Fiock (1-1) relieved Brent Doublin and finished the game, keeping Oak Hill off the scoreboard.
Fiock also had the go-ahead RBI in the top of the fourth inning to the Raiders a 9-8 lead.
Matt Davenport, the second of four Oak Hill pitchers, took the loss. The Golden Eagles fell to 12-12-1.
Davenport led Oak Hill’s offense with three RBIs, while Braydon Tiemeier and Chris Reaves each homered.
