Raiders split against Woodlan

The Southern Wells Raiders split a baseball doubleheader on Saturday with the Woodlan Warriors at the Raiders’ diamond.

Woodlan won the first game 12-3, which ended up the Allen County Athletic Conference slates for both teams. The Warriors and Raiders each finished with 1-6 league records.

The Raiders (6-11) came back to win the second game 5-2.

Senior pitcher Thad Harter (4-2) kept the Warriors off balance by scattering six hits over seven innings. Harter allowed only two hits after the third inning. Braden Hines was the losing pitcher, allowing eight hits and striking out 10.

The Raiders scored three runs in the third inning and one run in the first and sixth.

Jake Ripperger and Brandon Biberstine each had two-out RBI hits in the third. Devin Leas and Biberstine had two-hit performances in the victory. Biberstine had two RBIs and doubled. Brent Doublin, Zach Thompson and  Jordan Caldwell each singled.

In game one, Leas was the starting and losing pitcher. He gave up four earned runs and seven hits over three-plus innings. Ripperger and Alex Fiock each pitched two innings of relief. Tyler Romines got the win, striking out 11, walking three and allowing three earned runs over six innings.

Josh Lavanchy hit two home runs off Romines. Harter, Ripperger, Biberstine and Fiock singled.

Aury Keller, Hines and Romines hit home runs to lead the Warriors. Keller and Romines each had two RBIs. The Warriors had 14 hits, including three doubles.
