Norwell jayvees sweep Jay County
The Norwell Knights junior varsity baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Jay County Patriots on Saturday at Norwell. The Knights (11-5) won both games by identical 5-3 margins.
Jake Kendall (5-1) was the winning pitcher in game one, giving up one earned run on eight hits and striking out six. Landon Curry doubled to score Bryce Biberstein in the first inning. Curry scored when Kendall reached base by an error. Brandon Gerber led off the second inning with a double and scored when Wayne Saalfrank reached by an error. Biberstein doubled to move Saalfrank to third. Saalfrank scored on a wild pitch and Biberstein scored on a ground out by Curry.
In the second inning of game two, Kendall, Graham Shearer and Travis Gray had consecutive doubles and Dakota Parker singled. Shearer, Gray and Parker each had a RBI.
Curry led off the third inning with one of his three hits and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jasson Werling. In the fifth inning, Biberstein and Curry had back-to-back hits and Biberstein eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Gerber.
Saalfrank (2-0) was the winning pitcher and Dan DeArmond notched his fourth save.

Norwell girls tennis camp slated
The Norwell Girls Tennis Camp will be held June 16-20 for Norwell girls entering grades 5-9 in 2008-09. Cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt. The morning sessions will be conducted by Norwell coach Terri Worden. Application forms are available at Lancaster and Ossian elementary schools and Norwell Middle School. Elementary track meet at Norwell
Entry forms for the Northern Wells Elementary Schools Track and Field meet must be returned by Tuesday, May 13. The meet will be held Friday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m. at Norwell. The track opens for warm-up and demonstrations at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $1 for three events.

Physicals for Bluffton athletes slated
Sports physicals for Bluffton high school and middle school students, sponsored by the Bluffton Athletic Booster Club, will be given for the 2008-09 school year on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13-14 at the high school. The physicals will be held from 6-8 p.m. Enter the high school at door 4 and do not arrive any later than 7:45 p.m. so that our volunteers will be able to leave on time. Cost is $10. Physical forms may be picked up in the high school and middle school offices and should be brought that night.

Youth golfers beat St. Vincent’s

A group of youth golfers, who attend Norwell, defeated St. Vincent’s 201-232 on Friday at Canterbury golf course. McCallister Clouser led the boys with a 37 on the par 30 front nine. Nick Imel and Nick James each added 40s. Jake Harrell shot 41 and Kedrick Millholland added a 43. Other scores were Kyle Engle 45, Joel Davis 47, Roger Duggan 49 and McGerran Clouser 55.
