Lady Tigers edge Jay Co. netters
A sweep of the singles matches lifted the Bluffton Lady Tigers tennis team to a 3-2 victory over Jay County on Wednesday.
Cristina Gratton led Bluffton (6-6) in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Megan Adams in the No. 1 match. Kara Fiechter blanked Betsy Knittle 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Jenny Bennett topped Hannah McAbee 6-4, 7-5 in No. 3 singles.
Jay County won both doubles matches. Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp beat Amy Baker and Angie Smith 6-4, 6-2. The No. 2 tandem of Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman defeated Jessica Meitzler/Lauren Dunwiddie 6-3, 6-2.
Jay County reversed the score in the junior varsity matches 3-2.
Bluffton’s Jessica Ellenberger defeated Mariah Clark 8-4. Ellenberger also teamed up with Samantha Drew to defeat Kellie Howell and Jenna Wilson 6-1.
Jay County’s Kayla Martin beat Heather Coratti 8-0 and Mizuku Saito beat Natalia Gil 6-2. Becky Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman beat Drew and Gil 8-2.

Northfield golfers sink Tigers
The Northfield Norsemen golf team invaded Bluffton’s Timber Ridge golf course and swept up a 185-196 victory over the host Bluffton Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.
Colton Ringel led Northfield, taking medalist honors with a 44 for nine holes. Teammate Michael Enslen was next with a 46. Logan Hettmansporger followed with a 47, while Josh Unger added a 48 and Andrew Glasscock finished with a 50.
Four Tigers were clumped together with 49s, including Jason Cook, Tyler Mohler, Price Kyle and Jackson Bates. Ryan Coyne broke the mold with a 53.

Lady Knights fall to Lady Spartans
Fueled by 12 hits, the Homestead Lady Spartans softball team dealt the Norwell Lady Knights a 12-2 loss Wednesday in a Northeast Hoosier Conference game at Fort Wayne.
Jena Hamrick, Kalyn Jorgensen, Melissa Harber and Nikki Wilson doubled for the Lady Spartans. Jacqui Matheis was the winning pitcher. She held Norwell (7-14) to three hits.
Alyssa Shutt, who also was the losing pitcher, singled and drove in one run. Danielle Davis also singled and had a RBI. Melissa Werling tripled and scored both runs.

Homestead downs JV Lady Knights
The Homestead Lady Spartans defeated the Norwell Lady Knights 18-2 in a Northeast Hoosier Conference junior varsity softball game Wednesday at Norwell. Jenny Sterrett was the losing pitcher. Homestead had 14 hits and Norwell six. Laurin Herber and Kali Herndon each doubled and singled for Norwell (4-8), while Rachel Lind doubled and Kayley Hengl singled.

Elementary track meet at Norwell
Entry forms for the Northern Wells Elementary Schools Track and Field meet must be returned by Tuesday, May 13. The meet will be held Friday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m. at Norwell. The track opens for warm-up and demonstrations at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $1 for three events.

3 Norwell grads on BSU cheer squads
A trio of former Norwell High School cheerleaders have been selected as members of the 2008-09 Ball State University cheerleading squads. Jerrica Crow and Kourtney Fiechter are returning members of the all-girl squad, while Brian Reinhard was selected as a new member of the co-ed cheerleading squad.

Bluffton women win bowling event
A group of five women from The Bowling Center of Bluffton won the Fort Wayne Ladies Invitational championship for the second year in a row. The group includes Tina Wright, Jani Mann, Megan Fox, Roxane Schott and Toni Butt. Wright rolled a 202 team high game and 573 team high series. Mann rolled a 524 series, Fox 512, Schott 505 and Butt 484.
