Heritage claims 9-8 victory over Tigers

The Heritage Patriots pulled out a 9-8 victory over the Bluffton Tigers on Tuesday in Allen County Athletic Conference baseball action at Bluffton.

The Tigers (6-9-1) tried to tie the score and win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning but fell short. Bluffton slipped to 3-3 in the ACAC standings.

Heritage (11-10) raised its ACAC mark to 5-1. The Patriots out hit Bluffton 13-11. They scored three runs in the first and five in the second and pushed their winning run across in the fifth inning.

Colton Hissong was the winning pitcher, allowing seven runs (five earned) over five innings. He gave up 10 hits, struck out seven and walked two. Zach Schroeder pitched the last two innings to earn a save, allowing an unearned run on one hit. He struck out five and walked one.

Jarred Carpenter was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) over two innings. He gave up eight hits, struck out one and walked three. Cameron Gerber went five innings, giving up an earned run on five hits, striking out three and walking four.

The Tigers trailed 8-4 and closed the gap to 8-7 with three runs in the fourth.

Ben Hart hit a two-run home run and double to lead the Patriots. Chris Knefelkamp also drove in two runs, while Corey Snider, Zach Schroeder, Shane Bultemeier and Nick Rohlf each had one RBI. Rohlf doubled twice.

Jake King went 2 for 3 and drove in three Tiger runs. Carpenter had a home run and scored three runs. Gerber was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and a RBI. Tyler Holmes doubled and drove in a run. Tanner McKinney also had a RBI. Justin Pearson was 2 for 4 with a double.
