Norwell spikers win opening match
Olivia Geiger hammered 13 kills to lead the Norwell Knights to a 3-0 season-opening victory over North Side Monday at Fort Wayne.
Norwell posted scores of 25-22, 25-15, 27-25 in the varsity match.
Laken Chaney added 17 assists and 15 digs. Chloie Williams also had 15 digs. Halie McMillan added three blocks.
Vikings spoil Tigers’ season opener
The Bluffton girls’ volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at Huntington North Monday in the Tigers’ season opener.
Huntington North won the three games 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.
Kennedy Johnson had three kills to lead the Tigers. Morgan Corle added two kills and Sara Baumgartner one kill. Rachel Bertsch and Baumgartner each had a block assist. Johnson also had nine digs. Sammy Gilliam had seven digs, Corle six digs, Bertsch five and Lauren Stauffer two. Johnson also had three aces. Stauffer had two aces and Corle one. Bertsch also had five assists.
In the junior varsity match, the Vikings won 25-8, 25-13.
Generals boot Knights in boys’ soccer
The Wayne Generals defeated Norwell 3-1 to spoil the Knights’ season-opening boys’ soccer match Monday at Fort Wayne.
Ceasar Maldonado, Jorge Silva and Omar Villagomez scored the Generals’ goals. Jalen Smith netted Norwell’s goal with an assist by Graham Denney.
Jason Meyer was the Knights’ goalkeeper. He had 11 saves.
In the junior varsity match, Norwell also lost 3-1. Nick Whitney scored the Knights’ goal. Goalkeeper Collin Laley had five saves.
Tigers fall in first tennis action
Mississinewa used a sweep of its varsity singles matches against the Bluffton Tigers Monday afternoon to defeat Bluffton 3-2 in the boys’ tennis opener at Gas City.
In the junior varsity meet, the Tigers blitzed the Indians 4-0.
Bluffton will travel to Blackford Tuesday afternoon. On Thursday, the Tigers will host the Bellmont Braves at 4:30 p.m.

Punt, Pass & Kick winners named
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department and Bluffton High School football program hosted an NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition Saturday.
First-place finishers will advance to the sectional competition to be held later this fall.
The local winners are listed as follows: Brody Lewis (boys ages 6-7), Noah Thurber (boys 8-9), Ethan Chambers (boys 10-11), Jake Martin (boys 12-13), Elijah Barkell (boys 14-15), Kayla Kiefer (girls 6-7), Riley Tappy (girls 8-9), Karadyn Riley (girls 10-11) and Vada Barkell (girls 12-13).
