McCormick Clouser places 17th
in Indiana Amateur golf tournament
McCormick Clouser tied for 17th place in the Indiana Amateur Championship men’s golf tournament on Thursday at Prairie View Golf Club in Indianapolis.
Clouser finished the four-day tournament with an 11-over-par 299. The Norwell High School graduate from Bluffton eagled the 572-yard 13th hole to help card a 1-under-par 71 (36-35) on the last day. He also had four birdies, nine pars, three bogeys and one double bogey.
Clouser, who is a member of the Michigan State University men’s golf team, shot a 78 on Monday, 75 on Tuesday and 75 on Wednesday.
Overall Clouser had two eagles, 13 birdies, 37 pars, 14 bogeys and four double bogeys.
Drew Imel of Bluffton also competed and finished with a 22-over 310.
Tyler Merkel of Evansville was the tournament champion with a 3-under-par 285. Scott Pieri of Fort Wayne was runner-up with an even-par 288.


Purdue adds junior college linebacker
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue has signed junior college linebacker Ruben Ibarra and he will be eligible to play this season.
Ibarra, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, and was an all-conference selection while playing for City College of San Francisco, the national champion.
Coach Danny Hope says Ibarra doesn’t just add depth, he’s hoping Ibarra comes in and becomes an immediate contributor.
Ibarra played high school football in Chicago, and was a key cog in San Francisco’s undefeated 2011 season. He had 68 tackle, four sacks and eight tackles for loss. He also forced one fumble and recovered two others. As a freshman, Ibarra played in seven games and finished with 35 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and eight tackles for loss.
Kent State eliminated by Gamecocks
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Michael Roth pitched a two-hitter and two-time defending national champion South Carolina eliminated Kent State from the College World Series with a 4-1 victory on Thursday.
The game had been postponed by rain Wednesday.
The Gamecocks (47-18) defeated Arkansas 2-0 Thursday night. They need another win over the Razorbacks to advance to the championship round that starts Sunday.
Grayson Greiner and Chase Vergason hit consecutive RBI singles in the second inning to erase Kent State’s 1-0 lead. LB Dantzler homered in the third against Tyler Skulina (11-2).


Kent State (47-20) finished 1-2 in its first CWS appearance.
Roth (9-1) struck out eight and walked none. He retired 22 in a row after giving up Sawyer Polen’s RBI single in the second inning.


Bluffton girls’ basketball camp set
A Bluffton Lady Tiger Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 25 through 28 at Bluffton High School for girls who will be entering grades 2 through 8.
Registration fee is $25 and registrations will be accepted on the first day. Forms may be found on the school website, www.bhmsd.k12.in.us, and printed out.
Grades 2-4 will meet from 1-2:30 p.m., followed by grades 5-8 from 2:30-4 p.m.

Co-ed softball league at Montpelier
Montpelier will be holding a fall co-ed softball league at the Montpelier Ball Park. Players must be age 16 or older. Cost is $150 per team. Rosters may include 12 players. Additional players are $10 each. Rosters and fees should be turned by July 20. Anyone interested in registering a team should call Shannon Richardson at 765-499-1316.

Loren’s Light and Heavy Duty Towing Service defeated Parlor City Trophy and Apparel 15-5 in a Wells County Girls’ Softball Junior League game at Roush Park.
Kenya Moore and Brielle Nunley each had three hits and scored three runs to lead Loren’s. Autumn Moriarity had two hits and scored twice for Parlor City Trophy and Apparel.
