Man rescued from the Wabash River

April 3, 2014

A vehicle went into the Wabash River west of the White Bridge off of Wells County Road 450E around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. An individual apparently climbed out of the vehicle and was clinging to a tree before rescue personnel could pull him on to dry land. Once he was rescued, however, he was apparently handcuffed and taken into custody. River Road was closed at Stogdill earlier Thursday afternoon because of rising waters; heavy rain during the day had brought the river level from 3.8 feet at 4:30 a.m. to 10.7 feet at 2:45 p.m. (Flood stage is 10 feet.)
