Haitian man visits Bluffton, shares stories of pain, miracles and God’s love

• First in a two-part series

The devils weren’t listening that night.
The group of perhaps 100 Haitians cried out to them to stop the storm, to guide them as they fled to the United States in their almost 25-foot boat.
They were already sitting exposed and about an arm’s length above the water before the rain started filling the boat and the wind toppled the sail, and they didn’t want to die like the ones left behind earlier.
