SOUTH BEND — Ryan Miller hit a solo home run in the 12th inning Friday night to break a 1-1 tie and give the TinCaps a much-needed 3-1 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks at Four Winds Field. The win snapped a 13-game, regular-season losing streak for the TinCaps in South Bend, which dated back to Aug. 1, 2012.
Second baseman Josh VanMeter contributed an RBI single later in the inning against reliever Jose Jose. VanMeter also teamed with River Stevens and Jake Bauers for a game-ending double play. In the first inning, VanMeter also made a great catch to double off Andrew Velazquez at first base.
