College fusses over Studebaker

Bluffton native is admissions director at Holy Cross College
Holy Cross College, a private Catholic college in the South Bend area, has hired a famous name as its director of admissions and enrollment management.
That name is Studebaker. To be precise, the college has hired Bluffton native Brian Studebaker.
The college announced Studebaker’s hiring in a press release this week that connected him to the industrial name that was long tied to South Bend. The press released noted that it had been 50 years since the last car with the Studebaker nameplate rolled off the line in South Bend and that the buildings are eithergone or stand as “mere reminders of an era gone by.”
“However, one Studebaker has returned to South Bend with plans of making good, moving forward, and bringing gains to the city of his ancestors,” the announcement said.
Studebaker has served as the director of admissions at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis. He was also the senior assistant director of admissions at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer.
Studebaker has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer and he has a master’s degree in management and organizational behavior from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wis.
“When we began the search process, Brian was already known by our own admission counselors as an effective leader with a strong reputation among other colleges and universities,” said Robert Kloska, vice president for mission advancement at Holy Cross College. “We are very pleased to be able to attract a person with so much skill and experience. The search committee especially liked that he gained his experience at small Catholic colleges.”
With more than 20 years of experience in college admissions (at small Catholic liberal arts colleges), Kloska believes Studebaker will be a great asset to Holy Cross.
The announcement of Studebaker’s hiring concluded with this observation:
“Although the wagons have all gone and the cars are rare, the company’s legacy lingers, interwoven with the area’s history. The Studebaker name remains synonymous with the city of South Bend, and like his forefathers before him, Brian Studebaker is looking forward to bringing progress and success to South Bend, as well as to Holy Cross College.”
